Pocketful of Sunshine

To a stranger of Night Shade, the hundreds upon thousands of pine trees that shot up from the earth would form an unsolvable maze, a labyrinth of trees that one might find themselves easily lost in; at least that was the case for Lapis the first time she'd entered the pack's territory. It was so long ago, yet it felt like only yesterday that the clouds and the fog merged into one being of white, cast over the forest as if protecting the precious territory that lie at its heart. If things hadn't played out the way they did, if Lapis hadn't found home in Night Shade, she wondered if she would still be wandering these woods today, having lost not only her path in the maze-like woods, but herself as well. 

Things had been quiet in the pack as of late, though Lapis knew that would soon change as newleaf brought with it the prey that sought shelter during the cold season. At the Camp's Center, Onyx had spoken of the herd's steady return and set out a hunting party to the meadow‒ Ash and Ellen, was it? Lapis recalled the two wolves, one of which who spoke with an interesting accent. She wondered if their endeavors had been a success. Ah, maybe boredom was starting to scratch at her flank. Your duty will come with time, Lapis told herself as she took a seat between the trees, reveling in the rays of sunshine that peeked through the dense cover of green above her. For now, just relax.
