"No reason other than to simply get to know the ones I'll be relying on most. Don't you think it's only wise to get to know those you're living with?" came her response to his questioning,
"plus I think my lovely mate
can manage." she had put more emphasis on the word mate, obviously referencing back to the hulking black wolf glaring down Ez.
She continued on like nothing had happened,
"I don't know if you've noticed Ez, but there isn't much to do around here. I can spare a few moments to spend with a packmate, a good alpha knows not only their territory inside and out, but they also know the members that help guard and protect it. Essentially I am doing alpha duties by talking with you."Ezrihel gave a curt nod.
Remi cocked her head to the left ever so slightly before straightening it, giving a look over Ez.
"Hm, yes it's only fair that you know the most prime hunting spots in SilverMist's territory so you'll be able to provide for the pack in the future. Alright. Shall we go now then? That way we can perhaps take down an elk or something later on in the day after I show you around.""Oh, yes of course my Alphess." He responded softly.
Remi cast a glance over her shoulder and called out to her mate as she padded out,
"Hosi, Ez and I are going to go on a walk together and maybe go on a hunt later on."The brute bid his mate a safe and productive time before turning to the purple pelted male passing in front of him.
"You be careful too, Ez." Hosi nearly spit his name at him,
"And remember, the Silver Mist have eyes and ears are everywhere. So don't do anything stupid."Ez gave a nearly dead-pan look to his Alpha Male. His intelligent eyes studied the face of the black wolf as if he were looking at some sort of interesting insect on the ground near his paws. He wanted nothing more than to understand why his Alpha already treated him with such intense disdain. His voice was muted, so that only Hosi could hear it. His expression shifted to a more sincere one. "I'm not as useless as you think, Alpha."
Hosi only narrowed his eyes sharply as Ezrihel turned and followed after Remi quickly.
For a while they traveled through the territory, passing along long hidden game trails and under the branching archways the unkempt trees produced. The gentle wind slid through the trees, stirring the song birds and squirrels who chattered and twitted in protest before finding new purchases in the canopy. Ezrihel couldn't help but give a slight smile as the dry leaves and twigs crunched under their paws. His smile grew as they came upon an enormous fallen log. The log was as formidable and long as one of those two legged pink skinned creatures' strange rigid dens; it's girth of such a size that it would take several wolves put tail to tail to encircle it. Its rough bark was blanketed by soft verdant green moss. Its long roots reached out all around like thin desperate fingers.
It had fallen over a small and shallow babbling river, which could be heard through the sounds of nature, adding it's own unique voice the the choir of the earth. Remi leaped from the ground and up onto the log, giving an adventurous look at Ezrihel- beckoning him to follow her across. He hopped up after her, trailing closely behind- yet far enough away that he wouldn't catch a face full of her fluffy white tail if she wagged it.
When they got to the other side she beckoned yet again, seeming to follow an invisible path set to memory from the long years of having hunted in these parts. Over small swells and dips they padded, the lush ferns and shrubbery being brushed aside by their legs and chests. Soon enough the trees began to thin out and they came onto a large clearing filled with soft new grass sprouting from the ground.
Ezrihel lifted his nose to the sky and took in a deep breath, smelling all the wonderful scents of the prey that had hopped along through the clearing. He gave a quiet sigh as he exhaled then looked over to Remi.
"It's beautiful here. ... I'd like to apologize for my ignorance earlier, I am still learning the customs of having a pack and being around wolves who are interested in each other."
He watched her perk her ears to listen out for prey, her mouth opening slightly as she really drew in the air.
"If we ever got into a territory dispute with NightShade this would be a very valuable place to try and take and thus it's our job to keep it in the control of SilverMist, agreed?""Absolutely. I could see why any pack would fight for this piece." He lowered his head, brushing his nose past the long blades of grass. He spread his toes out, almost palming the damp dirt beneath his paw pads. He gave a soft flick of his tail, padding to sit to the left of his Alphess. He looked across the clearing, watching more clouds build on the horizon. "You know, my parents used to mention the packs of the forest in our bedtime stories. They'd tell us all these grand tales of amazing things the packs could do. How they were full of these huge strong wolves that would fight to the end to protect each other. I guess I've just always thought having such a tight knit group like that was an idea of fantasy, but you've started to prove me wrong."
His golden eyes glanced over her head and neck, watching how the breeze tussled her moon-light fur- how she closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling of being out in her territory. He felt something stir within himself, something unknown. Perhaps it was a grain of respect, or maybe the tiniest bit of awe at her seeming grace; what ever it was, he had never felt it before.
"Alphess Remi, what was life like growing up in a pack?"
